continues his exploration and restoration of the Theory of Mediation by addressing the human faculty of the Tool.Even the simplest notions, such as matter, material or instrument, are defined and delimited in an approximate and contradictory manner. What, then, can be said of the machine or the device? To such an extent that the projections between units and identities are simply not considered at all. Nor are the performative phases, reduced instead to a mere substitute.
Gagnepain showed a surprising casualness with regard to the faculty of the Tool. He invented it, inaugurated it, but handed it down to his successors in draft form.
This in itself is not a problem. But the master could have acknowledged it and explicitly entrusted his students with the task of completing its modelling. Failing that, with regard to the faculty of the Tool, as with all the others, they have spent the past forty years scrupulously going round in circles within the letter of a model they received while still under construction, without ever challenging it. With the possible exception of archaeologists, who, having sensed a malformation, regularly raise questions but, not being clinicians, do not dare go any further.
In response, Adrien Morel explores, opens up and unfolds the faculty of the Tool, from Pentelic marble to Artificial Intelligence, via the physics of materials. In doing so, he takes the opportunity to clarify and comment on the articulations of the model, for the benefit of all readers concerned with the Theory of Mediation. www.editionsdupromontoire.com
